Short answer: The way I would enjoy it if I were in the audience.
Longer Answer: As an artist, my appreciation of a dancer's work is different than that of a spectator. When watching someone perform, one can see what they did well and how to improve upon their technique or presentation; when viewing a piece by myself, however, I can only judge from within my own experience as an observer. This means that whether something works for me depends on the circumstances of the moment. If I am at home with friends who are also enjoying themselves, then I will find enjoyment in almost anything—and this includes dancing. But if I'm alone, and feeling particularly depressed, I may not be able to summon up much enthusiasm for even the most accomplished performer. And so it goes...
In other words, there really isn't any "right" response to a performing arts event. There are just degrees of success, which vary depending on both individual tastes and situational factors. One person might like to watch a movie before going out to eat dinner because she enjoys being transported into another world while eating her favorite food; another might prefer to go directly from the theater to a restaurant where he can talk about his feelings over some wine and cheese. So why not take advantage of this fact and use your imagination to create new experiences for yourself? It's all part of having fun!
