Criteria for any organism to be living are as follows:
It should perform basic metabolic process.
It can be unicellular or multicellular.
It should response to external stimulus.
It should able to reproduce and continue its generation.
It should allow slow and constant changes required for evolution.
*NOTE- LOCOMOTION (or) MOVEMENT is not included in this list because it is not a necessary criteria of living organism. Example- plants are immobile but are living.
*NOTE- VIRUS are exception because they exhibit characteristics of both living and non living.
