For me we need to be critical to the public servants to keep them honest , not the celebrities.However, a public figure or celebrity belongs to the public. I think there is a self deprecating need to criticize others to fulfill the need of making ourselves feel superior. Of course we do this to public figures because they are fair game. Everybody knows who they are and a lot of people have gone before us blazing a trail of criticism. If we posted blog criticizing a person no one knew or cared strongly about, that might be considered slander.Meanwhile heros they nurture hope and help us cultivate fortitude in this challenging time . If we criticize them , it only makes us ungrateful haman beings .
