Environmental science should not be confused with environmentalism which is a social movement. Though environmental science has the intention of studying environmental systems in order to help solve environmental problems, it as a scientific discipline only intends to describe and explain the what and how related questions about natural phenomena. Whereas, environmentalism is a broad philosophy and ideological social movement which intends to enact political, legal, and social change in order to solve environmental problems.
