•The immune system- is made up of special organs, cells and chemicals that fight infection (microbes). The main parts of the immune system are: white blood cells, antibodies, the complement system, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus, and the bone marrow.
•Enzymes in tears and saliva- break down bacteria. The stomach produces acid which destroys many of the microbes that enter the body in food and drink.
•1.)Primary lymphoid organs- These organs include the bone marrow and the thymus. They create special immune system cells called lymphocytes.
•2.) Secondary lymphoid organs: These organs include the lymph nodes, the spleen, the tonsils and certain tissue in various mucous membrane layers in the body (for instance in the bowel).
-White blood cells: Serving as an army against harmful bacteria and viruses, white blood cells search for, attack and destroy germs to keep you healthy.
-Lymph nodes: These small glands filter and destroy germs so they can't spread to other parts of your body and make you sick.
The tasks of the immune system:1.) To fight disease-causing germs (pathogens) like bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi, and to remove them from the body,
2.) To recognize and neutralize harmful substances from the environment, and.
3.) To fight disease-causing changes in the body, such as cancer cells.
