Senior high school students who want to take Bachelor of Science in Criminology should pursue the Humanities and Social Science (HumSS) strand.
The Philippine government implemented the K-12 education system back in 2021, adding two more school years for SHS. SHS has four strands of specialization: HumSS; Accountancy and Business Management (ABM); Science and Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); and General Academic (GA).
The four-year criminology program aims to produce law enforcers, investigators, correction officers, security agents, and the like.
The study touches on such topics as human behavior, politics, law, ethics, justice, society, and crime. The HumSS tackles related theories, so it’s the best strand to choose for students wanting to take criminology.
Some HumSS subjects in SHS include community engagement, solidarity, citizenship, critical thinking, politics, governance, philosophy, culture, communication, media, personal development, health, and physical education.
Said subjects can be considered preparatory courses that will arm SHS students when they decide to pursue criminology.
