In another world, I would like to be a father without having to go through the eternal insanity of mourning my children, without having to go through the ritual of watching my children return home as bodies folded like a prayer mat, and without having to spend my nights telling them the stories of a hometown where natives have become aliens searching for a safe haven. In another world, I would like to be a father without having to go through the eternal insanity of mourning my children, without having to I want my children to be able to play outdoors on a mat instead of having the walls of my home torn down by firearms. I want them to feel safe. Using the phrase "in another world" a great deal throughout the poem is because, in actuality, the author understands that none of his desires are feasible except in another universe, and he's been contemplating what it would be like if he were in a different world, or "in another world."
